The large brown rock crabs that you I find at the Northern Channel Islands and Nick are very good eating, and easy to shell once cooked.
Sheep (spider) crabs on the other hand taste good, but the shell is very hard to remove and crack. The few time I have eaten one I have resoret to using a vice to crack the shell.
