The commercial stone crab fishery just takes claws, the critters regenerate new ones.
Back on the "old daze" just 1 claw was taken, but the biologists found that the crabs had the same survival rate minus 2 claws as 1.
Stone crabs are in FL, btw. Not sure how the local variety would do.
