Correct me if I'm wrong, but the fact is that this was NOT a check-out dive as previously asserted (which was my original point).
And my recollection is that the person he paired up with (tripled up as I recall) was an instructor but not HIS original instructor, merely the instructor/shop owner who was leading the trip.
