As an instructor are you now responsible for anyone you get in the water with when you are not teaching? Once you are certified for basic open water, correct if I am wrong, but you are diver. Right? I think it is incumbent upon the diver to know his or her own limits and skill and make a reasonable decision about when, where, and how deep you are going to dive.
My 2 cents.
BTW - Accidents will happen. As mush as we would not like them to. More divers will die as a result of poor judgement, panic, and someone elses foolishness. This is because of the human element involved. It will happen again.
