I did not see the bright orange, but the water was very green and there was not much sunlight. The colors I got in the pictures were not as spectacular as the ones in person. When I did get some nice colors, I also got quite a bit of backscatter as exemplified in the following photo.
I think the colors may be very transient and might come out better on video. I tried taking a short video with my D-40, but a kelp stalk got in the way and it did not come out.
