My buddy and I were out diving at Tajigus on Friday afternoon when I saw a Sea Lion acting very strange. It wasn't barking, but it was pushing the water around, and making a ruckus. Before I knew it, it swam over and bit on to my leg, and started thrashing about!

I had my spear gun with me, so I started hitting it in the face with the butt end of the spear gun in an attempt to dislodge it. After a few good whacks, it let me go, and then swam over to get a piece of my buddy. My buddy hit it before it could bite him, then we swam away from there as fast as we possibly could.

Luckily, no damage was done besides a few holes in my wet suit. When it was biting me in the leg, I was very scared, as she had a very strong grip. I have seen these animals in the wild before, and have never been attacked, so I'm a bit confused. It was an adult female, probably about 175-200 pounds. Any reason for this unprovoked attack?

Very confused....
Jim
