I can now take faith in NAUI's associated insurance again, so I will renew with peace of mind.

It has always been clear to me that with NAUI the D/Ms must have their own insurance.

What I have not understood is why the NAUI A/Is and "certified assistants" (rescue divers specially certified as cert assts with HQ) do NOT need their own insurance. I guess I just havent read the policies closely enough yet.

From the beginning of this present "debate" I was fairly sure that an open water D/M or a boat D/M needs his/her own insurance. That much I never questioned.
