Fish should only be left in the tank long enough to secure ones dive gear.
Part of hunting is respect for your catch, and you do this by taking care of it and eating it.
Fish should be gutted and cleaned ASAP after returning to the boat. They should then be placed on ice or in refrigeration.
Unfortunately I do not know how you teach such respect.
Why do people shoot things they can't identify?
Why do people shoot things that are not edible (swell sharks)?
Spearfishing can be one of the most environmentally compatible methods of taking fish for consumption when done correctly.
It can also be very destructive when done indiscriminately.
I wish there was a way to stop such idiots. I though am at a loss of how.
