I was on the GE today and was also suprised to see this girl was an Open Water student. I did not see her in the water, but from what you described about her comfort level, maybe it wasn't a good idea, especially since she had to be towed "to" the dive site. I talked with her briefly before the first dive, and she mentioned her beach dive at Redondo yesterday. She didn't seem too comfortable with the beach dive either.

I think instructors should require students to wear properly fitting exposure suits. How many instructors would go diving with a wetsuit that is 2-3 sizes too big for them? Heck, a small leak in your wetsuit is enough to cause you to get the leak fixed so you can stay warm...

BTW, the bottom temp at 55 feet was 52 degrees today. I was wondering why I wasn't wearing a drysuit.
