I recommend Home Depot $7 gardening gloves - canvas back, rubber palms and fingers. Plenty of insulation as long as you're not DEEP for long periods of time, and throw them out when they get stinky or torn. I've switched to these for all my fish killing dives, and have yet to get around to buying a nice pair of cold water scuba gloves.
