Consumer Product Safety Commission, will announce that the company is voluntarily recalling approximately 6,000 UWATEC Smart dive computers. All three models of the Smart dive computers are affected: Smart PRO wrist, Smart PRO console, and Smart COM console. A software programming error in these computers may cause the alert signals to stop working properly, and, in some instances, the screen freezes. If this occurs, inaccurate information is displayed, such as water depth, tank pressure, ascent rate, etc..
The Smart dive computers were sold from February 2002 to July 2003 for a MSRP in the United States of $638 to $910. They are identified by the “Smart” name on the front of the dive computer and on the box.
We request that you take the following steps immediately:
1. Please stop the sale of these units immediately. Review your inventory and promptly return any units you find to UWATEC for replacement
2. Please display the enclosed retail poster immediately upon receipt. It should remain on display for 120 days in a prominent area where the product was sold unless you have a specific area of the store for safety notices.
3. Please review your records and provide us with the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of any consumers to whom you sold a Smart dive computer.
Please note that we are asking consumers to call a special toll free number 1-800-808-3948 in the U.S. or visit our website at www.uwatec.com so that we send them a box and shipping label in which to return their Smart dive computer. Upon receipt of their unit, we will send them a replacement Smart dive computer within ninety days or sooner.
