was one of the divers June 2002 that got to "plant" the first kelp tiles on the substrait. Nancy Caruso the biologist heading the project has done a great job. There are over 60 plants now growing in Crystal Cove at the research site, and some have reached the surface to form a canopy.

I also helped out when the CoastKeepers took 3 high school groups who have been involved in growing the kelp on the tiles over the last year to see the "fruits of their labor." If you are interested, I posted a brief report with some pics on another board....
