He played a major role in his PADI organization, and it will be interesting to see who emerges to succede him.
I view him as a NAUI diver who observed that NAUI standards where unreasonably high for 99% of the public, therefore he "adjusted" the standards within his own newly formed organization so that they were in easier reach of everyone.
History will probably view him as the person who created the largest diving organization in the world, and who increased diver certifications 10 fold.
