Monterey Bay Aquarium officials announced Friday that researchers are holding and monitoring a young white shark inside a 5-million-gallon pen in the waters off Channel Islands Harbor.
The female shark is just under 5 feet long and weighs about 77 pounds. The animal was caught in a commercial-fishing gill net Tuesday morning and was placed in the pen four hours later.
