Maybe some people can multitask underwater, I can't. I find that photography takes every bit of concentration that I have. Maybe some buddies don't mind sitting in one place for 30 minutes while I try and photograph something - most of the ones I've tried diving with hate it. I personally don't want the responsibility for another diver when I know that I won't be spending much of a dive paying any attention to them at all.

A buddy team requires comittment on the part of both buddies. Some buddy teams are great, others have two people with two entirely different sets of expectations. I think this whole issue is why solo diving is being reexamined and has strong proponents.

If you have a perfect underwater mate - hold on to them - there aren't many out there. Many "buddy teams" are in reality two solo divers.
