Because lobster season is coming up, I contacted DFG re the current red tides and the safety of eating lobsters. Here's the response:

Hi Jim,
I just thought you might be interested to learn that I spoke to the specialist from DHS today about whether lobsters might be affected by Domoic Acid build-up as you asked, and he said that there is evidence to suggest YES. I found too that currently the blooms seem to be centered mostly around San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara. To be on the safe side, when Sept. 27th rolls around and you do go diving for lobsters you should probably just plan to discard all internal organs and their by products and retain just the muscle tissue, which is the best part anyway, right? :)

This was news to me and so I wanted to pass it along to you too. I hope this helps!
