We saw two while on the pacific star last year, in between San Clemente and Catalina. They stuck around as we motored slow but disapeared as soon and the engines were cut. It was a SeaDsea trip and I saw some cameras out. Mine was already stowed. Never saw any pictures and don't know if any turned out.
They appeared to be bigger than the star but we couldn't get too close.
