Uh, check if Yosemite is open in Mid December. It may or may not be snowed in, but try to get to Glacier Point.
As for diving. Look at the California Dive Boat guide at http://californiadiveboats.com/ and see what boats you can get on. Go to their web sites and check their schedules.
From Santa Monica you can easily get to San Pedro and Long Beach boats.
