You have it exactly right about Monterey in winter.
It's either very good or very bad (and dangerous).
Over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend, we got
blown out on Thursday, had 60' vis on Friday and
Saturday, got blown out on Sunday. This weekend
it looks like we're blown out Saturday (tomorrow)
and MIGHT get to dive on Sunday.
It's a crapshoot.
Dive gear on a plane isn't a problem, provided:
- Don't pack it in a dive bag, ESPECIALLY though
Miami. They shout STEAL ME! My dive gear goes
in an Eddie Bauer duffle bag.
- You get two fifty pound bags with your ticket.
Go to 51 and they want $25 per leg more. So two
49 pound bags are a much better idea than one 51
pound bag.
