The new 10watt bulb and ballast will be available in Feb-Mar. The changes that are being made to the ballast
consist of twin igniters to improve overall ignition reliability. The
changes to the bulb consist of a shorter and thicker glass tube to increase
durability. As a result of these changes the 10watt will be slightly
brighter but have a shorter (300hr) life expectancy.
To test the durability of the new bulb the manufacturer repeatedly dropped a
hand held light with a 10watt bulb from 4ft. The new bulb had a 90%
survivability rate versus 10% for the current bulb.
