My buddy and I freed a ten pounder on the Olympic once that was tangled in a gillnet. It took about ten minutes to get all the monofiliment off its legs. It was so weak that I was able to pick it up twice without a fight. We finally placed it under the wreck and watched it crawl away to safety. Had it been in season...:-)
Most of the wrecks that are dived frequently, such as the Olympic, Moody, Ace One, Palawan and Landing Craft are picked over as far as lobsters go. The Avalon is usually a good producer. It's basically nothing but rubble, with steel plates strewn everywhere. It's a perfect habitat for lobster and it is North of the Gauntlet, the boundry of Santa Monica Bay where commercial traps are forbidden.
