I found one on Eagle Reef, Catalina, two years ago. We thought it was a nautilus shell dropped from a boat. After reading your description, I check the shell and noted the double ridge line along its edge, consistent with the statement that is was secreted by TWO dorsal fins. Thanks for posting and solving this mystery for me.
