We're starting to gain some ground as the Chamber Challenge has now passed $9,000. As we've said all along, our goals - while ambitious - are reachable, but not without YOUR help. And we want to take time to highlight a very special donation that's being included here in this update.
The South Orange County Dive Club is donating $1,325 (so far - it may be more) in memory of their good friend and former board member, Daryll Shatz. Daryll died last year while making a shore dive in Laguna Beach. And if you can ever say that something good can come out of someone's passing, the circumstances of Daryll's accident has caused many people in the SoCal area to re-examine how some protocols are done in the hopes of avoiding a duplication.
The donation from Daryll's club is appropriate not only as a tribute to Daryll, but also underscores that the mission of our Catalina Chamber is not only to be there in emergencies but also to serve as an educational to help divers dive more safely. Nothing would please us more than to go for an entire year without the Chamber services being needed. We thank the club very much and join them in remembering Daryll.
Other new donors this go-round include Rich Lockyer and Randy Barker. The complete list of names is posted below and we encourage you to add your name (and contribution) to the number of caring divers in SoCal who are willing to give a bit back to make sure that we all have the Chamber as a safety net.
