A tech diving backplate (dive-rtie, oms, or oxycheq, but avoid halcyon) can not be beat for diving with doubles. Some people like to use them for singles as well, but I do not. I have tried and prefer other systems for singles. Dive-Rite makes a great BC called a transpac, and scubapro makes a similar model.
If you know someone with a BC like you are considering, try one first. Or perhaps your shop has a rental one you can try.
People have different body styles and diving styles and there is no one BC that works for everyone.
