Fellow Divers: For a great dive in Monterey, try the sewers in Pacific Grove. On Saturday it was flat enough to dive this usually rough area, so I went for it solo. Parking is easy and the entry isn't too bad. After getting into the water you have a short swim and then the big rock formations start dropping off. Since I dive with a tube, I only dove to 30 feet, but the vis and fish life was amazing. Saw a big sheephead and some nice perch, along with a few big cabs and some rockfish. The coolest thing about the sewers is that the rock formations and the kelp forest meet, and there is lots to see. I kept doing straight lines with the compass to practice getting back to my starting spot, and every time I set a new course, I saw cool things. I also dove my favorite Coral street, and had another good dive there. Low tide is probably not the best time to dive Coral, but nonetheless it was a great dive. Get away from the crowds at the Coast Guard Pier and go south for a good dive. I only wish I would have taken my kayak. B. Xavier
