Not that i think it is necessary to "place blame" since I wasn't there. But, I just wonder what happened to the basic open water training of his dive buddy. Specifically, if you lose contact with your buddy search for one minute then make a safe ascent to locate them. This would have alerted everyone a lot sooner that something was not going right.
I think the point of the whole thread is that if any one person had followed the basic open water rules this could have all been averted.
