Scott - welcome to diving! Tori and I wear wet suits (6.5 - 7 mm with titanium lining) and dive Monterrey (48 degrees). Would not say its toasty, but its not frostbite either. Just an alternative opinion...plus a wetsuit is a lot less expensive for beach diving around here - don't poo-poo beach diving - it can be fantastic plus we have a thousand miles of coastline to explore!

We've been very happy with the guys at Hollywooddivers for gear advice; the other diver-run shops posted at this BBS are also good places to start. Your first question at the shop would be...'how often do you dive (dry)...?' When they say 'yesterday' or 'last weekend', you know you're at the right place.
