First, Ken's letter is a fantastic summary. I think this shold be put to bed. Let's support Ray by diving his boat - I'll bet it will be the safest in the water.
Second, Chris is right on - PADI is allowing instructors to 'certify' too many 'divers' who are not ready to hit the water for anything other than a dive WITH a dive master. PADI has great materials and courses, but ecomonics are pushing the shops to issue C-Cards to under trained people, allowing them to think they can take up what we know can be a life-endangering sport. This is not fair to the individual nor is it a positive reflection on our sport.
