Leaving it with the galvanized finish will allow you to see and take preventative care of the tank. But if you must paint it why not just get it powdercoated. It'll be a lot cheaper than the using the automotive sets which will require a good airgun (compressor, etc), and a lot of work, IMO. Or if you just want color, use some Hammerite or other tuff paint and retouch as necessary. JMO
