My wife mentioned that the Horizon boat oout of SD has a good reputation. Again, no personal experience yet, but we'll give it a try. The only reason I didn't press on LaJolla Cove is that for your wife as a beginner, it can be iffy if the swell is being tunneled into the cove and you're not used to Cal beach diving. But the Lifeguard station directly above it will provide you with advice for the conditiops of that day. If you can make it, its a fantastic dive over low lying reefs. Its a hugely popular site for snorkeling and rough water swimming, so if you just want a good snorkel, its a great freedive site.
