Why not use the right hoses and hose routing in the first place...
Using your own example...by using a long hose and donating the long hose you accomplish two things.
1. donating a reg you know works since you were just breathing on it. you also have the benifit of knowing EXACTLY where you back up second stage is and knowing it is not full of sand, mud, kelp etc...
2. by your example if you were in kelp you could swim single file if you needed to.
In short why not DIR...
