Er, color me stupid and flame away if you will, but if you go sticking your hand under an abalone don't you run a risk of having it clamp down on the edge of your glove or - worse - your finger? You may have this trick down, but the uninitiated - especially if they're free-diving -may want to be careful trying this one. No offense intended, just a thought.
