I tried one at last year's scuba show in Long Beach and was impressed. You retain almost all of your peripheral vision and have no magnification or tunnel vision.

Most people will have to wear some sort of contacts to wear this mask. Although I'm nearsighted, I'm not bad enough yet to get by without the contacts. Also, the whole monocle thing seemed a bit cumbersome (especially as I do a lot of shore diving).

The other alternative is getting prescription lenses for a standard mask. I'm very happy with the lenses I got from http://www.prescriptiondivemasks.com/ (based in San Diego) at less than 1/2 the cost of hydrooptix.
