(06-15-2004) - A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew came to the rescue Tuesday of an ailing scuba diver off the coast of San Clemente Island, authorities said.

The maritime agency's San Diego station got word about 11 a.m. of the medical crisis some 70 nautical miles west of the city, according to USCG public affairs officials.

Personnel aboard an already airborne HH-60 Jayhawk picked up 37-year-old Devin Sollender, who was conscious but experiencing pronounced numbness and discomfort in his legs.

The crew took Sollender to a hyperbaric-treatment facility on Catalina Island, where he was admitted in stable condition.
