If you want to just snorkel I would suggest going a short distance south to Gerstle Cove State Reserve.
There you will find an extreme abundance of marine life like no other area on the north coast with plenty of parking, bathrooms, cold shower, and a very nice calm protected cove. Go along the southern edge of the cove around the rocks and the views will amaze you.
I don't know much about Sea Ranch since it has all been privitized and shore access is very limited and parking even worse.
