I have used a slip tip for years on my pole spear and really believe it has saved some fish being lost. It's really effective on fish that really like to twist, like large ling cods. It also lets me attack swimming fish rather than those just found sitting on ledges or in holes. While I love the hunt, it reallys ticks me off when I or anyone mortally wounds a large fish, it breaks free and goes off and dies. That's such a waste!

I don't know to what extent you do your spearfishing via breethe holding vs scuba, but one other advantage when just breathe holding is that I don't have to be concerned about whether or not I have enough air left to pin and control the fish.

Just my thoughts.
