The following is a News Alert for all recreational ocean sport fishermen concerning abalone, Dungeness crab and bottom fish:
DUNGENESS CRAB
What: The sport fishery for Dungeness crab (Cancer magister) is closing in Del Norte, Humboldt and Mendocino counties.
When: The fishery will be closed from July 31 through Nov. 26, 2004
Additional information: The sport fishery for Dungeness crab will re-open in Del Norte, Humboldt and Mendocino counties on November 27, 2004. Go to www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/fishing_map.html for more details.
ABALONE
What: The sport fishery for red abalone (Haliotis rufescens) is re-opening north of the Golden Gate Bridge
When: The fishery will re-open on August 1, and will stay open through Nov. 30, 2004.
Additional information: The sport fishery for red abalone will close on Dec. 1, 2004. Go to www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/fishing_map.html for more details.
BOTTOMFISH
What: The sport fishery for federally managed bottom fish, including rockfish, lingcod, greenlings (rock and kelp), cabezon, and other federally managed groundfish species, re-opens for boat-based anglers . Shore-based anglers and divers may continue to fish for these species.
Where: From 40’10" North latitude (near Cape Mendocino in Humboldt county) to Point Conception (Santa Barbara county).
When: The fishery will re-open on August 1.
