Warhorse to Pensacola
A monster aircraft carrier will become the biggest manmade reef.
When the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany-all 888' of it-is scuttled 25 miles off Pensacola, Fla., later this year, it will reportedly be the largest ship ever intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef.
Pensacola lobbied strenously to get this giant in its backyard, and now that the Navy has finally given the green light, plans are underway to sink the ship in 50 to 250' of water, making this a world- class destination accessible to divers of all skill levels.
Just another reason Cali. sucks! And I've lived here my whole 35 years.
Positives:Warm weather, warm water, great vis. tons of wrecks, tons of huge game fish and the Bermuda Triangle!
Negatives: Hurricanes, humidity, bugs, and ?
Cali. +: Warm weather, nice beaches, beautiful mountains, and ?
-: World class traffic jams, world class smog, world as! government, and ?
Dam I'm jealous.
What does it take to get our state lobby for world class artifical reefs ?
Contemplating abandoning ship,
Jeff
