Both are down in Monterey California, about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive south of San Francisco. Both offer gear rentals and guided dives, and both have scheduled boat trips with the local boats, however they may or may not have a scheduled boat trip for the dates you will be visiting.
There is no scuba per se in the immediate San Francisco area. You either need to go south about 2 hours by car, or else north about 2 hours by car. However the diving northward is not beginner level diving, therefore most would recommend that you go to Monterey California, south.
