Of course you're right, what are people thinking? How could Carlock be expected to take responsibility for is own safety. He did the right thing by not following rig diving protocols or trying to get back to the boat on his own.
Exactly! And the DM was TOTALLY correct in screwing up the roll call because Dan wasn't qualified to be there in the first place! Roll calls, pre-dive briefings, and other such safety protocols are applicable ONLY to qualified divers. If for some reason a non-qualified diver happens to get in the mix, it certainly is NOT the DM's responsibility to make sure he gets home!
