I agree that Dan dug himself a big, deep, watery hole and that he should own up to it. BUT ... it's immaterial, because if the DM had done his job, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Like I said, even if Dan TRIED to get left behind, it's the DM's fault because he blew the roll call.
