Actually, I agree that a bad team is worse than no team at all. I've been buddied up with bad divers before... many people have. Yet I would also say diving with someone of equal or greater skill can also be very rewarding. And a good buddy team has agreed to a common objective before entering the water (I don't practice skills with my buddy, probably a good idea, but so is eating healthy...)
Oh, and I'm definately not DIR (and dive solo more often than not)
