Sounds like a nice dive. The light cannon is a great light, I have one and use it for night dives, and as an addtional light for photgraphy.
The the three rows of spines on the back of the thornback are very obvious and are an easy way to tell them from the round stingray, which often also often appear to be grey.
Batrays do get to be huge. In the 1970's I fished for them from piers and in the surf. The largest one I ever cuaght measured 7'6½" wing tip to wing tip. Thanks for sharing with us!
