I know what you're talking about- I just dove there for the 1st time on Thursday night and loved it. A seal hung around us for the last 10 minutes of the dive, which was the cap to an already great dive- saw some little sharks, octopi, a bat ray hit my buddy in the head, and we found a lot of eels and lobster. I really love diving in nature preserves.
As for that brain coral-like stuff, I saw that too, and came across some at Leo Carillo yesterday... not sure what it's called.
