It is truly ashamed that a dive store operator, that has little or no impact on the diving community of Southern California, has once again raised his head like he thinks he has some impact on the dive boats of SoCal. He is trying to tell all of you he has made some impact on the availability of dive boats to dive the rigs, while the rigs could care less. There is no regulation from the rigs, or Fish & Game as to any taking of any game off the rigs. The only regs that apply to the rigs is from the CG and that being we cannot dive it. It is a closed area. This has been imposed long before 911 and way before Ken Kurtis. Look on any chart of California and you will see that all the oilrigs have been a closed area for years.
The only reason that we can dive the rigs is that the owners are hoping that us as divers will influence enough people that they will not have to take down the rigs when the oil runs out. It will save the oil companies millions of dollars. This is, a great thing for us. The rigs are a great place to dive and a great place to take game.
Ken Kurtis though is trying to make this his game. He does not like the taking of game, and will attack divers that go on his charters for taking game, although his DM's can take game and do.
Once again the rigs nor Fish & Game will not stop you from taking any game from any oilrig in California.
A diver who is starting to like MHK (Me Hate Ken).
