After living in Marin county for 13 years, I never saw a seal in my backyard. At my friends house, at the base of the Corte Madera Creek we saw them all the time, I don't think there was a time when I didn't see them. THey often went onto her dock. They have seals at Muir Beach occasionally, as well as the Marin HEadlands area, but those are rare. I don't know of any colonies.
