You only need to connect one tank on a set of doubles unless they are independant, in which case they would be two single tanks, not doubles.
BTW, one of my buddies went to Sport Chalet this evening to fill his tanks and was refused because the VIS is expired. He argued that it is not the end of September yet, but the manager told him that SC's policy is that the stickers expire on the first of the month. How chincy can one store be?
