Jeff,
The most dangerous part of diving the rigs is getting on and off the boat. There are very few other places to dive where the diver can start from something sticking out of the water and then follow it down to any depth they want. You have absolute control over this dive.
If you are a competent diver, you do not need an escort, but as Ken has graciously offered, he does supply them. Gary on the PSalty5 runs the most trips out there and can accommodate virtually any schedule. They are beautiful and you should try them when you get the chance.
