There is great beach diving within 30 min. of TO. Anywhere there is kelp after passing Mugu Rock. Of course conditions aren't always cooperating.
You might try a 3/4 day boat, the Peace goes out on Mondays and Thursdays at 7:00 AM to Anacapa. Short trip that is usually smotth crossing.
