About 4 years ago, on a January day, the Great Escape did a wreck dive about 4 miles straight out of San Pedro. I jumped in to reconoiter the site and make sure we were anchored on the wreck. Within 10 feet of the surface I could see the bottom as clear as day. The bottom was at 110'. It wasn't the right site, but when we moved to where the wreck was,about a mile away, we had the same conditions.
As far as Catalina, San Clemente and Santa Barbara, I've seen 90-100' vis. Many, Many times.
